Mesa County attorney to retire

Mesa County commissioners voted 2-1 Monday to accept a resignation letter from County Attorney Lyle Dechant.

Dechant sent a letter to Board Chair John Justman last Wednesday stating he wanted to retire Feb. 14 after nearly 31 years on the job. The letter added Dechant wants three months of salary, among other provisions, as a condition of his retirement.

Commissioners Rose Pugliese and Justman voted to accept Dechant’s letter and the terms mentioned in it, plus begin a search process for his replacement. Commissioner Steve Acquafresca cast the dissenting vote.
