Mesa tennis coach wins Taco Bell men’s open title
Colorado Mesa University tennis coach Dan MacDonald captured his first Taco Bell Western Slope Open men’s open singles title.
MacDonald defeated five-time men’s open singles champion Jerry Lockwood 6-3, 6-2 in the final on Sunday morning at the Elliott Tennis Center at Colorado Mesa University.
It was MacDonald’s third men’s open singles final in the past seven years.
Central High School No. 1 singles player Aimee Basinski won the women’s open/4.5 singles title. The 17-year-old defeated Wendy Littge of Simi Valley, Calif., 6-3, 6-1 in the final.
It is Basinski’s first Western Slope Open women’s open singles title. She won the girls 18-under singles title on Thursday.
