Mesa tennis teams sweep Hastings College
Colorado Mesa University made quick work of Hastings College, an NAIA program in Nebraska, with 9-0 wins in men’s and women’s tennis duals Tuesday in Grand Island, Neb.
The Mavericks won every singles match in straight sets, and the women surrendered no more than a point in any set.
“We needed something like that,” CMU coach Dan MacDonald said. “We’ll have our hands full with UNC tomorrow.”
CMU was scheduled to play at the University of Northern Colorado on Sunday, but the dual was rescheduled for 1 p.m. today in Greeley.
Colorado Mesa’s Sean Robbins shot his second straight round of 74 to finish the two-day, three-round Thunderbird Invitational in 29th place Tuesday at 227.
The Mavericks placed 12th in the 16-team field, shooting a 928 at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Tourney host Grand Canyon University won the tournament with 866 strokes, 22 ahead of runner-up University of California-San Diego. Grand Canyon had four golfers finish in the top seven, led by meet medalist Jimmy Kozikowski’s 209.
