Mines takes home Nyikos Cup for fourth straight year

Colorado School of Mines scored 27 points in the fourth quarter in a defensive struggle to defeat Colorado Mesa 27-10 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football game at Stocker Stadium.

Mines (5-3, 4-2 RMAC) won the Nyikos Cup for the fourth consecutive year and snapped the Mavericks’ four-game winning streak.

Mesa’s defense forced four turnovers, but all came deep in Mesa territory. The Mavs (5-3, 4-2 RMAC) were limited to 310 yards in total offense and 100 on the ground. Mesa was 7 of 19 on third-down conversions.

Mines quarterback Justin Dvorak completed 30 of 49 passes for 356 yards with one touchdown and ran for two more in his first collegiate start.
