Missing GJ woman located; ‘unaware’ she was reported missing

Andrea Thinelk

A Grand Junction woman who reportedly left her child in the care of her roommate, before being reported missing days later by the same roommate, was located this afternoon, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Andrea Thinelk, 27, had been staying with different friends in the Grand Junction area and detectives got a tip that she might return home to collect some of her belongings. Officers were waiting when she showed up today.

“When detectives spoke with Thinelk she said she was not aware that she had been reported missing,” police said this evening.

She’d left home on her own accord, police said.

Thinelk was reported missing by her roommate on Monday and was reported to have been last seen on Friday cashing a check at Walmart, 2881 North Ave. Thinelk told her roommate she planned to buy bus tickets to South Dakota for herself and her daughter, police have said.

Friends and family thought it suspicious that Thinelk would leave behind her daughter with her roommate for this long without telling her roommate where she is.
