Missouri man dies after Ride the Rockies crash

EDWARDS — A 67-year-old Missouri man has died after crashing on a western Colorado mountain pass in the Ride the Rockies bicycle tour.

The Denver Post reports the man fell and hurt his head Monday while descending Tennessee Pass on U.S. 24 on a leg of the tour from Buena Vista to Edwards. His name and hometown haven’t been released.

Race officials say no one saw the accident. The man’s wife was riding ahead of him.

One of the 55 medics riding in the tour was the first person to find the injured man, who was taken to a hospital in Vail.

The Denver Post sponsors the 412-mile bicycle tour, which is in its 26th year. About 2,000 riders from 46 states and 10 foreign countries are participating.
