Moffat man shot, killed by neighbor

CRAIG — The fatal shooting of a Moffat County man by his neighbor is being investigated as a self-defense case.

The Craig Daily Press reports that 50-year-old Ron Torgersen was shot by his neighbor David Hazelip on June 24 in a development called Wilderness Ranch.

Torgersen died of his wounds on Wednesday in Grand Junction.

A statement released by the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating a claim of self-defense.

Lt. KC Hume with Moffat County Sheriff’s Office says that Torgersen and 58-year-old Hazelip owned neighboring properties in Wilderness Ranch and both fired weapons that day.

No charges have been filed. An autopsy was planned.
