Monforts sever ties with Casper; GJ move imminent

The Monfort Investment Group, which owns the Casper Ghosts minor league baseball team, announced today the club will relocate to Grand Junction for the 2012 season.

After a meeting with Casper city officials, Dick Monfort, one of the owners of the Colorado Rockies and the Ghosts, said in a release that pending approval of a contract by the Grand Junction City Council on Monday, the Ghosts will end a decade of playing in Wyoming.

On the agenda for Monday’s council meeting is a resolution to ratify a lease agreement between “GJR LLC” and the city for the use of the field for up to 30 years. “GJR” stands for “Grand Junction Rockies,” which the club will be called for at least its first year, a source said.
