Montrose veteran fighting to keep service dog

MONTROSE — A battle is under way to save an Army veteran’s service dog before it can be euthanized.

Dutch the service dog is accused of attacking and biting a woman last November. Veteran Jeremy Aguilar says the dog bit the woman after she abused the animal.

On Thursday, Aguilar, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, could be ordered to turn the dog over to authorities in Montrose to be euthanized.

Aguilar says he will fight attempts to seize his dog after a judge told Aguilar he could be jailed if he refuses to turn over the animal.
