More than 24,000 in Boulder without power

BOULDER — Xcel Energy says more than 24,000 customers are without power across Boulder after a massive outage Monday morning.

Xcel spokesman Gabriel Romero said the outage was due to a “transmission disturbance.” He said it is not known what caused the disturbance and crews are working to determine what happened.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, Romero said that because it was a transmission issue, rerouting power to affected customers would be difficult and it is not known when power will be restored.

Boulder police dispatchers indicate traffic lights are down at several major intersections and officers will be directing traffic.
