Most trial witnesses barred from Holmes courtroom

DENVER — The judge in the Colorado theater shooting says most witnesses won’t be allowed in the courtroom during the trial or pretrial hearings until they are called to testify.

The judge’s order, issued today, also says witnesses shouldn’t discuss the case with each other.

James Holmes is scheduled to go on trial in February on charges of murder and attempted murder in the July shootings at a Denver-area movie theater. Twelve people were killed and 70 hurt. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
