New art exhibits set to open

A new month ... and a plethora of new art exhibits are opening.

The First Friday art receptions for August include a reception for three exhibits opening at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

The reception is from 7–9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, with a gallery talk at 6:30 p.m.

Opening exhibits are “Eye, Hand and Heart” with works by Joanne Beaule Ruggles, “A Life Well-Rooted: Women of Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley” with works in photography by Meredith W. Ogilby and “Seeing With Different Eyes” by the Western Colorado Artist Group. Also going on is the center’s annual Studio Pottery Sale and continuing at is the exhibit “Conduits: Sculpture by Marcus Villagran.”

The Western Colorado Artist Group features members George Callison, Pat Sheeran Daggett, Bud Markos, Charles Morris and Brooks Woollcott Powell. The concept of the group is that of sharing perspectives and interpretations as a critique group that gathers to show each another their artwork and receive analysis to improve. “Seeing With Different Eyes” is the group’s first exhibit together.

The opening reception will have a cash bar and music by Morgann Means.

“N9NE” at The Raw Canvas Custom Tattoo Studio and Working Artist Gallery, 755 Rood Ave., will be from 6:30–10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. Ten artists will showcase artwork, four local bands and a DJ will perform, 985-9649, http://www.therawcanvas.net.

Works by artist Sara Alyn Oakley, reception, Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, 655 Struthers Ave., Friday, Aug. 6, 5-7 p.m., free refreshments, cash wine bar, 245-3288.

Dog and Cat Days of Summer Photo and Artwork exhibit reception will be from 1–4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Frame Depot, 529 Bogart Lane. Go to http://www.framedepotGJ.com or call 245-6999 for information.

An art opening featuring works by Suki Strong will 6-9 p.m. from 6–9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Glennie Coombe Gallery, 138 Grand Ave., in Paonia. The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 7. Call 527-6622 for more information.
