Norwood soldier to be buried in Grand Junction

Services honoring slain U.S. Army Cpl. Aaron Cruttenden will take place Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, according to Cruttenden’s family.

Scott Featheringill, Cruttenden’s stepfather in Hotchkiss, said the family was still working Saturday to finalize a time. Cruttenden is expected to be flown to Montrose on Monday, Featheringill said.

The family established the Aaron Cruttenden Memorial Fund, benefiting Cruttenden’s surviving 2-year-old daughter, through Wells Fargo Bank. Contributions are being accepted at any Wells Fargo location.

Cruttenden, 25, a Norwood resident, was killed Nov. 7 in Afghanistan when his unit drew fire during a mission in the Kunar province, military officials said. He enlisted in March 2008 and was serving in his first deployment with the 161st Engineer Support Company.

Cruttenden was scheduled to return from the deployment in December.
