Nun’s report leads to arrest of Basalt man

ASPEN — A nun’s report that one of her charges was inappropriately touched has led to the arrest of a Basalt man on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor.

John Cerise was advised of the possible charges on Wednesday and released on a $2,500 bond.

According to the Aspen Daily News, the underage girl was attending a private Catholic elementary school in Nebraska when she told a friend that Cerise had touched her inappropriately while she was in Colorado. The girl made the same allegations to the nun and the school’s bishop, and authorities were notified.

The girl told authorities the abuse happened in the Roaring Fork Valley between October 2010 and September of this year.
