One child dead, second child flown to St. Mary’s
One child died from unknown causes this evening and a second child was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
Both children apparently were in a running vehicle at Powderhorn Mountain Resort, but it’s unknown for how long, according to first responder dispatch reports. Those dispatch reports speculated that carbon monoxide poisoning might be a factor, but that, too, could not be confirmed.
As a result, the cause of death of the young child and injury to the other, who are approximately 2 and 4 years old, was unknown, according to Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin.
An investigation is underway.
