UPDATED: Man dead in accident on 27 1/2 Road
UPDATE 4:30 P.M.: The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has completed its examination regarding the death of Mark Ortiz, a 42 year-old male resident of Grand Junction.
Ortiz was the gentleman involved in the accident on 27 ½ Rd this morning. He had a natural disease process that rendered him unable to control the vehicle he was driving, the coroner’s office said.
The vehicle hit a curb, round on its side and Ortiz died on scene, the coroner said.
One person has died in a single-vehicle rollover crash this morning on 27 1/2 Road, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.
Just after 7 a.m., a man driving a sport-utility vehicle south on 27 1/2 Road hit a curb, then swerved to the other side of the road and struck trees, causing the SUV to roll on its side, police said.
No other occupants were inside the involved vehicle.
Officers are still at the scene along 27 1/2 Road, between Ridge Drive and Cortland. The road opened again around 10:20 a.m. following a closure for investigation, police said.
