One killed in SUV collision with electric cart
UPDATE: Friday, 3 p.m. — Coroner identifies Robert W. Tracy as man killed in the traffic accident
Robert W. Tracy has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash on North First Street last night, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.
Tracy, 81, was riding on his rickshaw-like, three-wheeled electric vehicle while he was struck from behind by the driver of a sports utility vehicle.
Tracy was a well-known fixture in the community and a member of a local service organization and would frequently dress as a clown in local parades, the coroner’s office said.
Tracy’s cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries and his manner of death was an accident, the coroner’s office said.

A person driving an electric cart was killed Thursday night after being struck from behind by another vehicle on North First Street, Grand Junction police said.
The accident happened just before 8 p.m., Grand Junction Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras said.
The three-wheeled cart and a Dodge Durango were heading south in the right-hand lane of First Street, south of Hill Avenue, when the female driver of the Durango became distracted and rear-ended the cart, Porras said.
The driver of the cart was pronounced dead at the scene.
Porras declined to say whether the driver of the cart was a man or a woman, although witnesses at the scene identified him as a man. Porras said there were other people in the Durango with the female driver, whose identity was not released.
Porras said officers don’t believe alcohol or speed was a factor in the crash. Police weren’t sure whether the cart, which Porras compared to a rickshaw, was legally operating on the road.
Police closed First Street between Gunnison and Hill avenues for a few hours Thursday night while they investigated.
