Overnight blaze tears through Fruita duplex

Firefighters with the Lower Valley Fire Department knocked down a duplex fire in Fruita overnight, a blaze still under investigation today.

Lower Valley Chief Frank Cavaliere said the call came in just after 3 a.m., on report of a fire at 816 E. Ottley. Responders found a duplex fully involved, as well as a car parked nearby.

A man who lives in one of the units suffered minor injuries, but was not transported to a local hospital, Cavaliere said. Residents in another unit were able to escape unharmed.

Damages are still being assessed, but the vehicle involved is a total loss. Investigators are on the scene this morning to determine a cause of the fire.
