Palisade man to primary Bradford

Palisade vineyard owner John “Rusty” Price officially made it a race today for the Republican nomination against incumbent Rep. Laura Bradford, R-Collbran.

Price, formerly the GOP party chairman of the House district Bradford represents, formerly submitted his paperwork today to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, officially making him a candidate in a new primary challenge.

The 64-year-old owner resigned as district chairman last week in preparation for today’s filing.

Bradford has been the subject of intensive media coverage over the past month centering on a Denver traffic stop on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, and avoiding being issued a DUI because of a little-known legislative immunity clause in the state Constitution.

She was exonerated of any wrongdoing, but not before Bradford complained about how she was being treated and threatened to leave the GOP as a result, putting the party’s one-vote majority in the Colorado House into question.

This year’s primary races are in June.
