Palisade baseball team falls to Wheat Ridge in district final
Wheat Ridge defeated Palisade 13-3 in five innings Monday afternoon in the Class 4A District 7 final at Wheat Ridge High School.
“We hit the ball well, but we left nine runners on base,” Palisade coach Steve Moore said. “They got some key hits in key situations and our pitchers didn’t hit their spots.”
Palisade (13-7) took an early 1-0 lead, but the Farmers (18-2) rallied and pulled away.
“We had the bases loaded once, but couldn’t get any runners across,” Moore said. “We just didn’t catch any breaks right.”
Pete Lelich started and took the loss. He was relieved by Tyler Day and Tate Herland.
The district tournament was scheduled last Saturday, but was postponed because of inclement weather. Tournament officials attempted to get the games played Sunday to accommodate Palisade’s graduation Monday night, but the field was too wet.
Palisade defeated Falcon 13-3 in six innings in the first game Monday to advance to the district final.
Cody Krabbe pitched a complete game in the Bulldogs’ victory.
It was the final high school game for seniors Joseph Jonely, Jam’r Rhodes, Lelich, Zach Hughes, Krabbe and Tucker Barnes.
“I’m proud of those guys,” Moore said. “They were a great group of seniors.”
