Palisade’s district baseball game again halted by rain

Weather continued to plague high school district baseball playoffs Sunday.

Palisade High School’s Class 4A District 7 tournament game was postponed a second time Sunday, this time because of an unplayable field.

Palisade led Falcon 6-1 after the first inning Saturday in Wheat Ridge when play was suspended by rain. The teams were scheduled to resume playing Sunday, but the field was still too wet, pushing back the game to today.

The Bulldogs (12-6) spent part of the day at a baseball hitting and fielding facility in the Denver metro area.

Palisade and Falcon will attempt to finish their game at 10 this morning. The winner plays Wheat Ridge (17-2) immediately after.

Palisade is hoping to get both games played in time for the team to return home in time for graduation ceremonies at 6:30 tonight at Stocker Stadium.

District 5: Valor Christian took advantage of an error to defeat Montrose 7-6 in 10 innings to advance to the Class 4A state championship series later this week.

The Indians (11-10) scored six runs in the second inning with the help of a Bryce Gaber two-run double, but Valor Christian (16-5) rallied and tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a dropped fly ball.

The teams were tied until the 10th when the Eagles scored on a fielding error that could’ve ended the inning and continued the game.

Nathan Robertson pitched seven innings before he was relieved by Gaber.

CLASS 3A

Olathe didn’t give Jefferson Academy much of a chance.

The Pirates (13-8) picked up Sunday where they left off Saturday, rolling to a 16-4 victory over Jefferson Academy in the District 2 final at Kent Denver High School.

“We got on them early and kept putting pressure on them,” Olathe coach Darren Sofka said. “From that point on, our guys wanted to get it done.”

Olathe led 2-0 in the first inning Saturday when play was suspended. The Pirates added four more runs in their first at-bat Sunday when play resumed.

Cody Harrison pitched five innings for the win.
