Paonia coaches will have sons in finals
Paonia will have three wrestlers participating in the Colorado State Wrestling Championships tomorrow night. One of them will be Bo Pipher at 126 pounds and head coach Andy Pipher’s son. Another, Jesse Reed, a returning state champion, will have his father Bobby, an a assistant coach at Paonia in his corner for his 120-pound match.
Andy Pipher was a 1988 state champion for Hotchkiss and coached by Bobby Reed. Reed was a 1979 state champion for Paonia.
Tony Darling, who placed third a year ago, will also battle for a state championship.
Losing semifinal matches for the Eagles were Josh Altman, Ty Coats, William Austin,Tyler Kendall, and Joel Simianer.
The Eagles lead the 2A team race with 142.5 points. Paonia, the defending state champions, have a 25.5 point cushion over Highland.
The finals will be held at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
