Paonia girls roll to victory in 2A tournament

The Paonia High School girls basketball team came out and made a statement in its opening game in the Class 2A state tournament in Pueblo.

The Eagles, who were state runners-up last year, rolled to a 49-30 victory over Holyoke. Paonia (23-1) advances to play Sangre de Cristo (18-6) at 7 p.m. Friday in a semifinal game.

Also today, in Class 1A, the Pawnee girls defeated Dove Creek 53-42 in a quarterfinal matchup in Pueblo.
