Paulson’s two HRs lift Fruita past Montrose

Mallory Paulson hit two home runs and drove in five runs as Fruita Monument High School beat Montrose 9-4 on Thursday.

Paulson hit a three-run home run as the Wildcats (15-4, 9-1 Southwestern League) scored four runs in the third inning after falling behind 1-0. She added a two-run home run in Fruita’s five-run fourth inning. Jenni Sneddon pitched a complete game to pick up the win, which concluded the Wildcats’ regular season.

Fruita finished tied with Grand Junction atop the SWL standings.

Grand Junction 7, Central 0: Elisha Jahnke pitched a four-hit shutout, while Maddie Marsh went 4 for 4 to pace the Tigers’ 13-hit attack, which included five doubles.

The Tigers wrapped up their regular season 9-1 in the SWL and 16-3 overall.

Boys soccer

Palisade led 3-2 at the half, but Glenwood Springs scored two goals in the second half to beat the Bulldogs 4-3.

Phelandez Balitho scored in the 50th minute to tie the game, and Kenny Dardynski scored the game-winner for the Demons in the 57th minute.

Marques Combs scored all three of Palisade’s goals, including the game’s opening goal in the seventh minute and one on a penalty kick in the eighth minute for a 2-0 lead.
