Pirates and the like to take over living history site
Be ye noble or pirate, dragon or fairy, soldier or wench — or just a curious visitor — you’re invited to the Dragon Unchained Renaissance and Pirate Fantasy Faire set for consecutive weekends.
Hosted by Thunder Mountain Colorado Living History, this free event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, April 12–14 and April 19–21, at 312 29 Road.
The faire will feature merchant booths, entertainment and activities as well as camping passes offering after-hours access to the festival period village Drakestown.
Performers listed at dragonunchained.org are Jack and Jill, Defy Gravity, Get Creative, Susan Cypher and the Nightbird Band, The Crossroads Mystic, Oscar the Great, Magician Extraordinaire, Fireflicker, Capn Jack, Queen Elizabeth, Kubsurat Ruh, His Madness, King Draco, Drake’s Drums, The Purple Pirate, The Captains Drake, Lu-Lu Scaramouche, Soluna Singers and more.
Other attractions to see are acrobats, puppeteers, jugglers, an archery range and archery tournament, knife and hatchet throwing, spear and javelin throwing, horse vaulting, an operational 1/4 scale trebuchet, hands-on blacksmithing, copper, brass and silver smithing, pony rides, masonry bread oven and hand-to-hand combat.
Camping passes are $50 for a single, $75 per couple, and $15 for ages 12–18. Children younger than age 12 camp free with a parent. Camping rates are inclusive for all three days of the faire. Campers must RSVP and setup before 9 a.m. Friday. Call 497-6587 for camping details.
