Police, armed man in standoff in Grand Junction

Grand Junction police have blocked off a portion of Horizon Drive while an armed man is holed up in a room at Mesa Inn.
Police spokeswoman Kate Porras said the man has multiple felony warrants and is likely armed. People in the area are being asked to shelter in place until the standoff is resolved.
The area from G Road to Applebee’s has been blocked off, preventing north-and-south travel on Horizon Drive.
People were sheltering at businesses in the area. Porras said numerous Grand Junction police officers were on the scene, as was the SWAT team.
Porras said police were asking residents to avoid the area so police could do their jobs. “We want a peaceful outcome, but we don’t want to rush,” she said.
The standoff began at about 7 p.m. and was ongoing as of 10 p.m.
