Police identify fatal accident victim

The Mesa County Coroner reports that the man killed in an accident Wednesday along D 1/2 Road was 39-year-old Shannon I. Gallegos of Grand Junction.

Gallegos was an occupant of a Ford Taurus that rolled several times on D 1/2 Road, near the intersection with 29 Road. The vehicle lost control while negotiating a curve, according to the Grand Junction Police Department. Another man suffered injuries that were characterized by police as non-life-threatening, and he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. Police say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
