Police looking for burglary, theft suspect

Grand Junction police and a SWAT team have descended upon the Riverside neighborhood this evening in search of a man who reportedly broke into a home and stole a vehicle earlier in the day.

The incident started this afternoon when a woman who lives on Little Park Road arrived home to find a man inside her house. The man ultimately stole her car, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department. There were reports that the man was dressed in camoflauge and stole weapons from the home, although those reports haven’t been confirmed

More than an hour later, police found the car in the Riverside neighborhood and surrounded a home in the area of Hale and Lawrence avenues. As of 5:45 p.m., officers were still in the area.
