Police say hostage being held in Colorado home

ARVADA — Police are negotiating with a person holding a hostage in a home in Arvada, Colo.

The suspect took the hostage Monday evening and the standoff has stretched into Tuesday morning.

Police aren’t releasing any details but say the suspect and the hostage don’t know each other. Police spokeswoman Jill McGranaham says the residents of some nearby homes have been evacuated as a precaution.

The Denver Post reports that the suspect and a friend called the newspaper Monday night but police asked that the content of the conversation not be reported.
