Police say man killed girlfriend, faked car crash

DENVER — It looked like a car crash claimed the life of Air Force veteran Brittney Brashers back in November. But Denver police now say her boyfriend killed her and then staged the crash to cover up the slaying.

Twenty-four-year-old Robert Walters has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Brittney Brashers of Colorado Springs.

Walters was in Brashers’ car when it appeared to go out of control and crashed into two parked cars on Nov. 17. He suffered only minor injuries. He said Brashers shouldn’t have been driving because she was drunk.

Police suspected otherwise but it wasn’t until Walters’ estranged wife came forward in March that the case moved ahead. She said Walters had confessed to killing Brashers after an argument.
