Police investigating deaths of two men

Police investigate a death in the alley on Second Street between Chipeta and Ouray avenues Wednesday morning. A man was found face down near a Dumpster with his shoes beside him hear the sidewalk.

Investigators do not suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found along a residential sidewalk Wednesday morning in downtown Grand Junction, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

A woman walking to work around 6 a.m. found the man, who was lying face down near the alleyway of Second Street, between Chipeta and Ouray avenues. Police Cmdr. Greg Assenmacher said numerous items believed to be associated with the man, such as tennis shoes, were found within a roughly 50-foot area around the body.

An officer with the department’s Homeless Outreach Team was called to the scene but was unable to identify the man, Assenmacher said.

Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras said investigators found no evidence that the man had been assaulted.

Police also responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Bunting Avenue, where a man’s body was discovered.

Assenmacher said the deaths are unrelated.

In both instances, the deceased men had residences, the Mesa County Coroner’s office said Wednesday. The coroner’s office did not release identities or cause and manner of death for the men.
