Police investigating fatal Wednesday morning crash on D 1/2 Road

An autopsy was performed Wednesday on a man who died in an early-morning rollover accident on D 1/2 Road, authorities said.

The man, whose identity wasn’t released, was an occupant of a Ford Taurus that rolled several times on D 1/2 Road, near the intersection with 29 Road. The vehicle lost control while negotiating a curve, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Two men were thrown from the car, police spokeswoman Kate Porras said.

A neighbor reported the accident around 12:30 a.m., and officers found the surviving man sitting on the curb, Porras said. The second man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The surviving man suffered injuries that were characterized by police as non-life-threatening, and he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. Police did not have an update on his condition as of Wednesday evening.

Porras said officers had not determined who was driving and had “limited” opportunities to speak with the survivor.
