Powderhorn ready to open Thursday
This time, it’s for sure.
Officials from Powderhorn Ski Resort confirmed late Wednesday the ski resort will open for its 44th season at 9 a.m.Thursday.
“A group of us just took a run from the top of the Take Four Quad to the bottom of the West End and the mountain is skiing so well,” said Powderhorn spokeswoman Sarah Allen. “It’s snowing pretty hard on the top half of the mountain and the snow on the upper two-thirds of the mountain is phenomenal.”
Allen said snow conditions on the bottom third of the resort are a “bit grabby” due to the wet snow but there is plenty of coverage.
The resort is reporting 8 inches of new snow and a 30-inch base as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“We’re expecting more snow tonight so tomorrow is going to be a great opening day,” she said.
The resort will have 20 runs open Thursday when the lifts start turning.
Tickets will be regular price and are available in Grand Junction at Gene Taylor’s Sporting Goods, Board & Buckle Co., Traz Snow & Skate, Home Loan State Bank or Sports Authority.
