Prescribed burn on Grand Mesa set for Thursday
Federal officials are planning to conduct a prescribed fire on the Palisade watershed on Grand Mesa on Thursday.
The controlled fire could produce smoke that would be visible in the Grand Valley.
Palisade, Grand Junction and the Bureau of Land Management are planning the fire, needed to remove heavy fuel loads in the 646-acre Palisade watershed about seven miles southeast of Palisade.
Fuel for wildfires has built-up in the area over several years, officials said, noting that the burn will also improve wildlife habitat by stimulating new growth.
