Priest accused of sexual misconduct on leave
DENVER — Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput has placed a Roman Catholic priest on administrative leave following an allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Chaput said this weekend that he received “a credible allegation” May 7 accusing 75-year-old Dorino De Lazzer of misconduct in the early 1970s, before De Lazzer served in Colorado.
De Lazzer has served in the archdiocese since 1973, with assignments in Aurora, Denver, Arvada, Greeley, Craig and Boulder. He retired as pastor of Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder in 2005.
In April, Chaput relieved Mel Thompson of priestly duties after a former parishioner accused the 74-year-old of sexual abuse more than 30 years ago.
The archdiocese reported the allegations to police.
