Rec center on Montrose city ballot
Voters in the city of Montrose will decide in April whether to raise sales taxes to fund a recreation center.
The Montrose city clerk’s office found a sufficient number of signatures today to place the question on the ballot.
Voters will be asked to increase the sales tax from 7.65 percent to 7.85 percent.
Revenues from the sales tax would “fill the gap in financing” for the center, estimated to cost $22.6 million. The Montrose County Recreation District already has set aside nearly three-quarters of that amount, Executive Director Ken Sherbeneau said.
