Red Cliff declares state of emergency over frozen water main

VAIL — The town of Red Cliff has declared a state of emergency after a frozen water main shut down water to residents and businesses.

Red Cliff Mayor Ramon Montoya is hoping the emergency declaration will qualify for state funding to fix the problem.

The water district for the community of more than 300 people about 100 miles west of Denver has traced the problem to a mile-long stretch of pipe that connects the water plant to the town.

According to the Vail Daily, the town of Avon has offered use of the Avon Recreation Center for showers and Eagle County is providing drinking water.
