Red Flag Warning issued for Thursday

Weather conditions are expected to change between now and Thursday increasing the potential for dangerous fire conditions, the National Weather Service said today.

They issued a Red Flag Warning for the Grand Junction area, specifically for between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. tomorrow, where increasing winds and lower humidity are expected to raise the regional fire danger.

Temperatures are expected to warm into the mid-80s tomorrow afternoon, and eastward wind gusts are expected as high as 35 mph. That, in combination with low relative humidity, should create “critical fire weather conditions below 8,000 feet, where fuels are dry,” NWS reports.

It is recommended that agricultural burns and other outdoor burning be postponed, officials said.
