Repairs beginning on Lily Lake Dam near Estes Park

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK — Repairs are getting under way at Lily Lake Dam in Rocky Mountain National Park to prevent it from failing.

The work will mean about 500 feet of the Lily Lake Trail across the dam will be closed. Park staff members say the repair work could last through the end of November.

Park officials say failure of the dam isn’t imminent, but the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has determined it is a high-hazard dam that could flood areas along Fish Creek if it were to fail. Fish Creek flows into Lake Estes in Estes Park.

Funding to repair the dam is coming from the National Park Service Dam Safety Program.
