Plane on route to Aspen crashes near Cedaredge, pilot dead

A Cessna 210 bound for Aspen has crashed in Delta County, officials confirm.

One person — the only occupant of the plane — has been killed in the crash, according to statement from Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee.

A distress — or ELT, Emergency Locator Transmitter — signal was received by federal officials in the Flattops Wilderness, and Delta County emergency responders have converged on the scene, according to an FAA spokesman.

Just after 6:11 p.m., emergency responders reacted to the radio report of a plane crash in the East Surface Creek area near Cedaredge. The plane was reported as “fully engulfed in flames,” according to radio traffic.

Responders descended on the address of 21453 Surface Creek Road, an address east of Highway 65 and northwest of Cedaredge proper.
