Review of state business tax credit program begins

DENVER — A review of business tax credits designed to boost economies in distressed areas is getting under way.

A group created by the legislature this year will be studying how enterprise zones get tax credits and how effective they are. The group holds the first of several meetings Wednesday.

The enterprise-zone program was created in 1986.

House Democratic Leader Mark Ferrandino sponsored the legislation to review the tax credits. He has said large companies that would be hiring anyway are benefiting from the credit.
