Rifle runs over Pueblo East in 3A semifinals

PUEBLO – Kellin Leigh finished with 183 total yards of offense and Ryan Moeller finished with 207 rushing yards on 17 carries, and Rifle High School’s football team advanced to the Class 3A state title game with a 56-6 semifinal victory over Pueblo East at Dutch Clark Stadium on Saturday.

The top-ranked Bears (13-0) finished with 370 rushing yards and enforced the running-clock mercy rule with 10 minutes, 5 seconds remaining in the third quarter when Moeller’s 7-yard touchdown run put Rifle up 42-0 following Marco Gutierrez’s point-after kick. Moeller had scoring runs of 1, 7 and 43 yards, and Leigh caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Adam Rice to go with his scoring scampers of 74 and 5 yards.

Rifle will play Silver Creek on Saturday for the 3A state championship. The Raptors beat Conifer 24-7 in the other semifinal on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Legacy Stadium in Aurora.
