UDPATE: RMAC pitcher of the year leads Mavs to victory

Colorado Mesa senior pitcher Matt Williams threw a complete-game shutout to lead the Mavericks to an 8-0 victory over Metro State in the RMAC baseball tournament at Suplizio Field.

Williams (8-1), the RMAC pitcher of the year, limited the Roadrunners to six hits, one walk and struck out six in nine innings.

Garrett Carpenter was 3 for 5 with a double, home run and three RBI in his first game back in the lineup since April 20, one game after he was hit in the hand by a pitch. Carpenter extended his hit streak to 22 games.

Jordan Moore-Leister was 3 for 4 with one RBI and Nate Robertson was 1 for 5 with two RBI.

The Mavericks (42-8) will play New Mexico Highlands at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Metro State (20-27) is eliminated.
