Rockslide expected to close Highway 65 through weekend

A massive rockslide that closed most of Colorado Highway 65 through Plateau Canyon Thursday will likely mean the road will remain closed through the weekend, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The debris field includes at least one boulder the size of a recreational vehicle, according to CDOT officials, and road damage is extensive. Wet weather and loose rock above the slide is further adding to the extended closure of the road.

The nearby De Beque Cutoff Road is open as an alternate route.
