Sand Dunes fire burning on 4,700 acres

ALAMOSA — High winds are making a fire burning east of the Great Sand Dunes National Park inaccessible to firefighters.

Fire officials say the fire has burned more than 4,700 acres and is not threatening any structures. The park in southern Colorado has remained open.

The is burning high in the Sangre de Cristo mountains on the east side of the park.

Two other smaller fires are also burning in western Colorado.

One has burned 170 acres on the Roan Plateau. Another nine miles south of Norwood has burned more than 270 acres.
