UPDATE: Schools and other facilities closed due to snow

According to the Mesa County School District website, all schools in D51 have been canceled Wednesday due to snow.

Officials based the decision on road conditions, inclement weather, cold temperatures, and wind to determine that closing schools was in the best interest and safety of the students. More information is available at http://www.mesa.k12.co.us/closures.cfm.

Also, the Garfield Re-2 School District, which serves New Castle to Rifle, announced its closure in an e-mail to media. Garfield County School District No. 16, serving the Parachute/Battlement Mesa, posted its closure on its website, as did the De Beque School District.
The Roaring Fork School District, which stretches from Glenwood Springs to Basalt, also is closed today, KDNK radio in Carbondale is reporting.

Colorado Mountain College also has closed its campuses from Rifle to Aspen.

All Mesa County Libraries have been closed but will reopen on Thursday.

The Grand Valley Transit is also delayed this morning. Normal route times will resume around 9 a.m.

Mesa County has announced that the Clifton branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles will be closed today due to staffing issues and winter weather. The Central Services location, however, will be open as usual for all DMV and clerk and recording needs.
