Civil unions bill clears Colo. senate
On a 23-12 bipartisan vote, the Colorado Senate approved a measure today that would allow same-sex couples to enter into civil unions.
The three Republicans who voted with the 20 Democrats in the Senate are the only three women in the GOP caucus. They include two from the Western Slope, Sens. Jean White of Hayden and Ellen Roberts of Durango. Democratic Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass Village, also voted for the measure, while Sen. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, opposed it.
The measure heads to the GOP-controlled House, where it’s future is uncertain.
