Senator kills her own beer bill

Sen. Betty Boyd, D-Lakewood, asked the Colorado Senate this morning to lay over her bill to allow convenience stores to sell full-strength beer until May 12, which is a way of killing it without having to actually kill it.

That’s because the 2011 session ends on May 11.

Boyd said initially, she thought she had plenty of support in the Legislature to get it passed, but that support “eroded” as this year’s session went on.

Earlier this month, the House overwhelmingly killed a bill to allow grocery and convenience stores to sell full-strength beer.

It is the third year in a row such measures were considered in the Legislature, all with the same result.
