Sex assaults alleged on 6-year-old girl

A Grand Junction man is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl over the course of 10 months, ending in the fall of last year.

Brian Leo Erickson, 34, was ordered held in Mesa County Jail on $150,000 bond after his arrest Thursday by Grand Junction officers at his job site.

A judge signed a warrant for Erickson’s arrest Dec. 2, alleging multiple counts of sexual assault against a then 6-year-old girl who reported the assaults in August 2008.

According to Erickson’s arrest affidavit, the girl worked with staff at the Western Slope Center for Children to detail instances of sexual contact with “Brian,” her mother’s ex-boyfriend.

He lived with them at the family’s former home in Grand Junction from December 2007 to October 2008.

The girl later identified Erickson in a photo lineup as the man who assaulted her.

The affidavit said the girl’s mother told a Grand Junction detective that Erickson watched her daughter while she ran errands, in addition to full days when she was serving a weekend sentence in Mesa County Jail.

Erickson did not agree to be interviewed prior to the writing of the arrest affidavit.

He will be formally charged Dec. 24.
