Sex exploitation case against Whitewater man dropped
A Whitewater man remained in Mesa County Jail on Monday facing several burglary-related charges, but no longer faces a charge of sexual exploitation of a child.
The Mesa County District Attorney’s Office opted not to file formal charges of sexual exploitation of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor against Brett Burke, 19. He had been arrested in connection with the charge while jailed on other charges.
Investigators had found video on Burke’s cell phone that depicted a girl displaying parts of her body.
Investigations into Burke are continuing and “potentially more crimes will be added to his list of charges,” Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Lisa McCammon said.
Burke still faces 20 charges, including allegations of burglary, theft and conspiracy. He is in jail in lieu of several bonds amounting to at least $75,000.
Burke “is right where our investigators think he should be,” McCammon said.
